HOUSTON (January 23, 2015) – Memorial Hermann yesterday broke ground on a major medical campus in Cypress.  The $168 million project is being constructed on a 32-acre site located on the northeast side of Highway 290 and the Grand Parkway, between Mason Road and Mueschke Road.

“This is an exciting time for Memorial Hermann,” said Dan Wolterman, President and CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System.  “We are in the midst of the largest multi-campus construction campaign in our System’s history.  With major construction and renovation projects in key areas of our growing community – including Cypress – we are able to provide patients unparalleled access to our health system’s advanced services and clinically-integrated care in the areas where they live and work.”

Phase I of the Cypress medical campus includes a six-story, 125,000-square-foot medical office building, which includes a 40,000-square-foot Convenient Care Center that will provide one-stop, highly coordinated access to adult and pediatric primary care, specialty physicians, sports medicine and rehabilitation, outpatient imaging and lab services – including MD Anderson Breast Care with Memorial Hermann – and a 24-hour emergency room.   Scheduled to open in early 2016, the Convenient Care Center is designed to take the stress out of scheduling appointments for routine health needs by offering families options such as walk-in access and extended evening and weekend hours.

Anchoring the medical campus will be an 80-bed acute care hospital.  It will house eight operating rooms, a 16-bed intensive care unit, a neonatal intensive care unit and a cardiac catheterization lab, with room to accommodate significant future growth.  The hospital’s expected completion date is Spring 2017.

Plans also call for the construction of a dedicated Memorial Hermann Life Flight® helipad.  As the area continues to grow, the campus has room for two additional medical office buildings and two additional patient bed towers.

“This new medical campus really will offer it all – from a quick primary care physician appointment to an emergent procedure in an emergency room setting, and everything in between,” said Scott Barbe, CEO, Memorial Hermann Cypress Market.  “Yesterday we broke ground with anticipation of what tomorrow will bring – a Memorial Hermann Medical Center in Cypress that offers exceptional patient experiences and safe, high-quality care.”

The Cypress project is one of several new projects in Memorial Hermann’s strategic growth initiative – Breaking New Ground – designed to meet current and future healthcare needs in the greater Houston region. The initiative includes the construction of a medical campus in Pearland featuring a 64-bed hospital, and multi-million dollar expansions at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital and Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital.
